Article processing charges can be supported with a funding amount of up to 2,000 euros. Higher article processing charges are not covered and pro rata funding is not possible in this case.
The use of the following services of Bielefeld University Library is only possible for medical staff working in research and teaching at the Faculty of Medicine / University Hospital OWL and who have been authorised by the Faculty of Medicine as members of the university. The prerequisite is the status as a university specialist clinic of the UK OWL, which goes hand in hand with the appointment of the clinic management to a professorship at Bielefeld University.
Using the physical library
After authorisation by the Faculty of Medicine, you will automatically be created as a user in the library system.
In order to borrow physical items from the library, you need a library card in the form of a UniCard. You can obtain this at the service desk of the Library Service Center (BDZ).
You will find the holdings of the specialised library in the main university building (UHG) E1.
You can borrow printed materials with your UniCard. The loan is automatically renewed up to the maximum loan period (65, 85 or 180 days, depending on the loan period), provided no other user has reserved the material
Interlibrary loan requests are free of charge for you, the costs are borne by the Faculty of Medicine.
The UniCard can also be used for other services such as copying, printing and scanning.
Use of online resources
To use the online resources off campus, you will need your BITS account, which will be sent to you automatically after authorisation by the Faculty of Medicine.
With this account, you can authenticate yourself with the individual publishers and content providers via a so-called "Shibboleth access" in order to access the content licensed by the library.
Not all content providers allow access via Shibboleth. These can then only be used in the IP area of the university, i.e. via access from the campus network.
Shibboleth web authentication
On the websites of the content providers/publishers, use the login button as a guide. Select "Log in via Shibboleth or Athens". Different formulations are used depending on the publisher: Login, Shibboleth-Login, Login via your Institution, Login via Shibboleth or Athens, Institutional Login, etc. (German and English terms vary).
The so-called WAYF service (Where are you from?) appears, which lists the licenced universities/institutions. Now select your home institution, Bielefeld University Library.
Based on the respective content provider/publisher, you will then receive the login screen for your university account at BITS.
The first time you call up a Shibboleth login page, you will be shown the attributes to be transferred. If you want to continue, click on "Accept".
You are now recognised as a member of Bielefeld University and authorised to obtain (full text) access to the desired electronic information medium under a valid licence from Bielefeld University Library.
